Att göra – Kungliga palatset Alcázar i Sevilla
I hjärtat av Sevilla ligger det spektakulära Alcázar, ett UNESCO-listat kungligt palats känt för sin ovanliga blandning av morisk och renässans kristen design. Inte bara ett utmärkt exempel på Mudéjar-arkitektur, det är också en av världens äldsta palats som fortfarande används, besöks av medlemmar i den spanska kungafamiljen och besökande statschefer. Det har även blivit berömt sedan det visats i Game of Thrones.
Palatset representerar själva stadens utveckling, med en hybridstil som återspeglar dess många mästare. Det byggdes som ett fort 913, blev moderniserat till en bostadsfästning för Abbadiderna och utvidgades sedan ytterligare under Almohadsna. Slutligen, efter erövringen av Sevilla av Fernando III 1248, uppnådde den sin slutliga inkarnation som ett kungligt palats (en status som den fortsätter att upprätthålla). Det fortsatte att genomgå ytterligare förlängningar och förändringar för att passa monarkernas behov. Under de fem hundra årens konstruktion lyckades olika arkitektoniska stilar varandra. Av denna anledning är platsen en slående kombination av islamisk, barock, gotisk och renässansinflytande.
Komplexet är omfattande, ett tips är därför att planera besöket i förväg. Höjdpunkterna inkluderar Palacio de Don Pedro, som förmodligen är den mest kända och arkitektoniskt imponerande, och den överdådiga Salón de Embajadores, som ursprungligen var Pedro I: s tronsal. De vidsträckta trädgårdarna, komplett med en häcklabyrint, är också väl värda att vandra. Bland exotiska växter, apelsinträd, palmer, fontäner och paviljonger hittar du hörn fulla av fascination, som Mercury-dammen, Grotesque-galleriet eller Dansens trädgård.
Real Alcázar i Sevilla har öppet kl. 09.30 från måndag till söndag. Från 15 september till 31 mars stänger palatset kl 17:00 och från 1 april till 12 september stängs det kl 19:00.
